Bog of Allen

We went to the Bog of Allen Nature Center. There we learned about the importance of bogs in Ireland, not only as an energy resource but also as a natural one too. Bogs are home to so many plants and animals.

Bogs are now endangered because of the use of machinery in the exploitation of the land to make peat bricks, mostly for power plants. Many efforts are made in order to protect bog lands and to try to restore damaged areas.

At the Nature Centre we were excited to see tadpoles and newts in the different ponds. Also, in the greenhouse, we explored a collection of carnivorous plants: venus fly traps, sundews and cobra lilies.

On our way back home, we stopped at a nice little park to grab a snack and have some fun.
