expressions

we've picked up a bit of the irish slang. here are a couple of local expressions:

to 'call in' means to knock on the door. at first i kept telling the neighbors, "you can't call me, i don't have a phone!" eventually, i caught on.

when telling time, they say it is half nine, for 9:30.

when asked 'how are you doing' in ireland, you should respond 'gran'.
oh and everything is 'lovely' here.

the 'boot' of a car is the trunk;
'crisps' are chips;
'chips' are fries;
'trousers' are pants;
'pants' are underwear;
'a good craic' (pronounced 'crack') means having fun.
A 'buggy' is a stroller;
the 'telly' is tv;
'petrol' is gas;
"motoring' means driving.
