Blue Mosque

Yesterday we made our way into a mosque. The Blue one. Before we entered a young local approached us in French.
How did he figure that out? Don't we look like locals? With our backpack and camera?
We were escorted all the way around the building to the 'non-muslim' entrance where we took off our shoes and put them into a plastic bag to be recycled at the exit. We even had to cover our knees - no shorts here - wearing a powder blue cloth with a very convenient velcro at the waist. Bare feet on the rug, we looked inside the cool mosque before the evening call to prayers. When we got out and put our shoes back on. Our new guide took us all the way to his cousin's store on the 3rd floor- no pressure here- to buy a carpet.
These guys are good! We don't need a kilim, do we?
Maybe we will change our minds, they said, as we were leaving without a carpet, flying or not.
Tomorrow? Maybe...
