Pouring the perfect pint

It took seven months, but we finally made it. We followed the flight of a toucan and we entered uncle Arthur's demesne: the Guinness brewery at St. James's Gate.

We visited the Storehouse ten years ago. Having forgotten the camera in the car, we had walked away without any pictures. Ironically, the camera was out of batteries this time and again we were not able to take pictures... Sadly, we will have to go back.

The whole place was revamped for the 250th anniversary of the brewery. We got to learn about the ingredients and the different steps it takes to brew that world famous black stuff. We viewed the different slogans used throughout the years: My Goodness, My Guinness. Guinness is good for you. A pint a day. Guinness for strength... A whole floor is dedicated to the efficient Gilroy advertisements starring the zookeeper and his bunch of swiping animals including the toucan (which started out as a pelican) and the most popular sea lion.

These ads contain historical product claims that are not now endorsed by GUINNESS®. In posting these ads it is not our intention to promote benefits of drinking but to show GUINNESS® stout advertising over more than 80 years. We believe that adults who choose to drink should do so responsibly.

The best part was without a doubt the Guinness Experience, which involved learning to pour the perfect pint. Only one of us passed the final test with flying colors... Not me! Shocking!

At the top of the building is the Gravity Bar. There we had the best view over Dublin and the kids finally enjoyed something much more appropriate to drink: pop!
