We joined a Sean-nós singing and dancing workshop at the Gaelchultur, a learning centre promoting Irish culture, including music, songs and dance.
Sean-nós are 'old style' songs in Gaelic, usually unaccompanied. Edna, our teacher, was very interesting and told us that the singer may require, at times, physical support while performing: someone might be holding his hand, gently swaying it. It reminded me of a childhood tv show called: 'Soirée Canadienne'. You Tube it for fun times.
After learning a few songs in Gaelige, it was time to step up and dance with Liam.
Sean-nós dancing is really simple at first. Ready: right foot, heel, toe, heel, toe, tap. Left: heel, toe, heel, toe, tap. Then you add music, sidesteps, circles, crossing, twisting, lifting...
Got it? Now, let's put it all together.
5, 6, 7, 8.
And everyone is confused except for Colin, spinning so fast that the camera is too slow.
Exhausted by a full hour of dancing like the lord (of the dance), we decided to take one's leave and head out for lunch.
