farmers market

ireland takes great pride in its agriculture. much like in quebec, they promote their local products. in the meat section of the grocery store, they sell only irish beef which can be tracked back to the farm it comes from. most of the vegetables sold are from ireland. their dairy also comes from local farms. so one would think that they would have lots of farmers markets around, but they don't. we located only two farmers markets in the dublin area -- one north of the city and one south of the city. on sunday we went to the farmers market up north. it was about a 20 minute drive to the city of howth. it wasn't as big as the farmers market in kingston. ironically, there were only two vegetable stalls in the mix! there was one stall with different kinds of olives in buckets. it was beautiful.

they also sold irish cheese. one of my favorites is crozier, a soft blue cheese that is not too strong.

the kids got to sample lots of food. here's a picture of magalie eyeing some lovely cupcakes. we really love farmers' markets.
