razor clams

i decided to translate the previous post in english for everyone. last weekend we went to howth -- a fisherman town a bit north of dublin. there, you can buy the freshest sea food. in fact there are tons of sea food restaurants and they all have food awards hanging on the door.

one of the interesting things about being in another country is that you can enjoy local specialties. when we were going from fish store to fish store, we noticed these weird horizontal clams called razor clams.

so we decided to give them a try. they were alive, moving on the ice. these are a rare find. to catch razor clams, you need to walk backwards along the beach at low tide. razor clams sense your approach and disappear, then they sneak back up once you've gone. if you walk backwards, you'll be able to see holes appearing in sand as you walk away. the kids each had a try. the majority liked it. the pictures in the post below show colin preparing them and the final masterpiece that we prepared.
